Fresh off its 9-0 thrashing of Cazenovia in its opener, tonight, the Skaneateles Boys Hockey Team earned a convincing 7-0 victory over perennial Division 1 powerhouse West Genesee. The Lakers have put the CNY hockey world on notice that they have reloaded and will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Against Cazenovia, the Lakers applied continuous pressure peppering Goalie Logan Palmer (60 saves) with 69 shots on goal. Senior Ryan Gick led Skaneateles in scoring with a “hat trick” and an assist, while sophomore Charlie Russell contributed 3 points (1 goal and 2 assists) Sophomore Cole Heintz scored 2 goals while Junior Bauer Morrissey, and sophomores Jacob French and Drew Henderson, also recorded goals. Freshman Garrett Krieger and sophomore Brendan Powers assisted on 2 goals a piece while 8th grader Charlie Major was credited with one assist. Goalies Chris Falso (11 saves) and Adam Casper (3 saves) combined for the shut out.
Notwithstanding the “step up” in competition against the Wildcats, the Lakers remained impressive on both offense and defense. Ryan Gick again led the way with two goals including the game’s opener on a nice assist from sophomore Owen Van Holtz. Van Holtz later scored two goals of his own, with senior Luke Lynn and freshmen Garrett Krieger and Jack Henry also finding the back of the net. The Laker Defense led by Goalie Chris Falso and defensemen Bauer Morrissey and Cam Lowe were tremendous all night highlighted by killing off a Wildcat 5 on 3 power play midway through the 2nd period.
With a strong balance of senior leadership and “Young Gun” talent, Coach Mitch Major’s team should be poised for another successful season.
